1.In What ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? ( To answer this question you should compare and contrast your magazine cover with a professional one, discussing photography (shot distance, props, use of lighting, costume and pose), page layout, use of font, use of colour and the content of the sell lines.)
Photography- my picture is of a Q.E student, wearing just smart comfortable clothes. The shot distance is a medium close up, showing his head, arms and body down to his hips. Comparing this to a professional magazine the shot distance is more or less the same, sometimes professional magazines just have the face of a celebrity also. We didn't use any props, this is because i wanted it just simple, also we only used natural lighting, this is because it would look less poesy and so on. The pose he used was just natural, and was actually a mistake, i thought it just looked naturally and quite good, compared to a poesy one. The picture on the contents just looks smart and cool, making the students have a good impression on the magazine.
Page Layout- The page layout is simple and like many professional magazines, it firstly has a skyline following the masthead, and underneath of that to the left is the bar code and to the right is my image. Following on from that all the way down the left hand side of the magazine is my sell lines, and to the right of them is my image.
Use Of Font- I used three different fonts that i thought were trendy and right for my audience, i used the same font for my skyline, masthead, and ab it on some sell lines. The i used a different one in one of my sell lines and then another different one in two of my sell lines. I carried all of these fonts on into my contents page. Use of colour is also important and i used red, grey, black and white, i thought these colours would stand out, catch peoples eye and they are also trendy and not over the top.

Prelim Flatplans
FRONTCOVER & CONTENTS PAGE
Colors; black, white, blue.
I chose these colors because black and white stand out and are very bold, this means it will catch the audience's eyes and draw them straight into the main sell lines, which will intrigue them to buy the magazine as they will be wanting to know more. I also chose blue because this is a very lively color, making the mast head and other sell lines stand out drawing in the readers eye. These colors relate to the target audience as they are very lively, bold, and stand out in the crowd which hopefully will be some qualities of the readers. The color of black could relate to the instance of being naughty,sophisticated, dark and the color of white could relate to them being good, clean, healthy, contrasting them in this way makes the magazine good for both audience's and it relates to two or more different personalities. The color deep blue is related with passion, royalty, deep, and secretive this could relate to the passion students have in life and towards their work, how superior they are compared to students who aren't from Q.E and also very hard to understand meaning they have their own lifestyles and are very independent.
On the contents page the colours are going to be the same, black white and blue. This is so i follow on the same theme, so the magazine looks more professional and put together, as if i had different colours all over the place the magazine wouldnt look one and look like a jumble put together.
Page Layout;
The positioning of the Mast Head is in the center at the top of the page, it is 6and1\4 inches long, and 2 inches wide, leaving 1 inch from the top of the page for the Sky Line, and also 1 inch at the sides. The Skyline is 8 inches long and 0.2 inches from the Mast Head and o.2 inches from the very tip of the magazine.
The Main Image is at the side of the magazine, looking relaxed and casual giving the message that college can also be fun, and enjoying but he also has a very stern expression therefore means he can be serious, and confident in the work he does and life. He is wearing jeans and a t-shirt, which also represents the fact that there is no uniform making the college also seem more relaxed and laid back, and bringing a sense of personality into the college. Which is an issue for some people what they wear, as they may feel more comfortable in their own clothes, which means they will feel more comfortable in the college, and their surroundings. The shot distance of the image is not too far as you can see just above the knees, therefore showing most of his body.
The Sell Lines are at the left side of the magazine overlapping the main image, the main sell line is at the top after the mast head, and then following down from that are the rest of the sell lines.
I have used a little spiky bubble that has writing at the right hand side of the image, this has a little extra information in about the information inside the magazine.
The contents layout is fairly simple, as the audience just want to look at it and found out where they want to read. I have got the magazine's title at the top left, this shows that its still the same magazine, branding it is important or the audinece could get confused or think it isnt professional. At the top in the right, there is the writing 'contents' this is showing its the conents page so students know where they are in the magazine and relate back to that page if they are lost. All down the right hand side under the magazine title is a mixture of pictures linked to the articles, so the audience can get a jist of what they are looking at. Next to this down the left hand side is the magazine catogories, the article titles and a brief summary for each, also next to page numbers this lets the audinece know what the magazine contains and where to find it, making their read easier and quiker. Finally at the bottom is a subscription section this is where students can subscirbe to the magazine, recieveing it monthly, instead of having to go and buy it. Content of Sell Lines;
The main sell line is 'health matters' which is in bold, capitals as it needs to be the biggest as it is the main one. Underneath in small writing it says 'food at college' this is a little heading letting the audience know that the sell line HEALTH MATTERS is about food in college. I did this one as the main sell line because i think food is imporant in a students life as it will help them get through a full day without being hungry, also healthy eating would be ideal as it may help with thinking and learning quicker also water always helps. Also different people like different things therefore i would mention their to be a variety of good in college and list a few, for example, pasta, sanwiches, chips and alot more. The colour of this healine is going to be black as it will stand out the most against a white background and catch the readers eye straight away.
Other sell lines are, '100 ways to pass Exams', the 100 will be bold and in navy blue, as this will make it stand out as it is a large and specific number. 'ways to pass' will be in black lower case, as it is just the connecting words and arent to important, and 'exams' will be in capitals and in black font. Leading the audience straight from 100 to exams so they get the picture of what that article would be about and ovbiously want to read it as i am assuming they would want to pass their exams.
The last sell line is 'coursework a drag?' and then underneath, 'page 251, has all the answers'. This is all in capitals but in smaller writing, and the bit underneath is even smaller, as this is just a page turner and another reason the student audience would want to buy the magazine.
